    The Brampton Board of Trade is pleased to announce Ms. Charmaine Williams, City Councillor, Wards 7 & 8, City of Brampton, as the 2021 recipient of the Naseem Somani Memorial Leadership Excellence Award. In 2019, we lost an important member of our business community and a giant in corporate Canada. Naseem Somani, former CEO of Dynacare, was an outstanding business leader who was known for both her competitive and her collaborative spirit. In growing her business, she demonstrated that working with other businesses we can grow our community, our province, our nation and beyond. In recognition of her outstanding leadership, The Brampton Board of Trade has established a special excellence award in Naseem Somani’s honour. The Naseem Somani Memorial Leadership Excellence Award.     On January 21, 2021, the Federal Government announced approval for the Milton Logistics Hub. This $250 million investment from CN will enhance the supply chain for local manufacturers and farmers exporting goods worldwide. Minister Wilkinson’s decision to move forward also helps strengthen and secure food, medications and consumer goods reaching our store shelves. Read more

The Business Person of the Year is awarded to an individual that has demonstrated business leadership and excellence in Brampton, contributing to the city in both professional and personal endeavours. Throughout his career, Ciciretto has served as a compassionate, decisive and inspiring business leader, and throughout the past year each of these qualities has been on full display.     Toronto, January 12th, 2020 – Atlas365 Inc. is thrilled to announce it has successfully raised a funding round after oversubscribing its anticipated raise of $500,000. The round was led by strategic investor Canxtra Inc., a global industrial-scale cannabis extractor and product manufacturer. Friends and family supplemented the round. Read more

    On November 5th, Finance Minister Rod Phillips released Ontario's Action Plan: Protect, Support, Recover — the next phase of a comprehensive action plan to respond to the serious health and economic impacts of COVID-19. The 2020 Budget provides more resources to strengthen frontline health care, support people and employers, and lay the groundwork for Ontario’s recovery. The Ontario Chamber Network, along with the Brampton Board of Trade and Ontario’s business community welcome today’s Budget. The Brampton Board of Trade agrees that it is an impactful and thoughtful response to the COVID-19 pandemic and demonstrates the beginning of a long-term plan for economic growth.     More than 166,000 Brampton residents wake up each morning and drive to a job outside of the City. Through a number of initiatives, members of the Board of Trade actively advocate for more economic development and job creation in Brampton. One part of the city that is ripe for re-development is downtown Brampton, but did you know that development in downtown Brampton is restricted by a government “Special Policy Area” designation?     Brampton, ON, September 10, 2020 – Today the Brampton Board of Trade released results of its inaugural Business Confidence and Economic Issues Survey administered by Narrative Research. Surveys completed this past summer queried business owners about confidence in the future of their organization and Brampton’s economy. Specific business issues including civic leadership, talent, trade, transit, transportation, innovation, taxes and investment attractiveness were also queried. Key findings were: That businesses are quite optimistic about the future and are satisfied with City Council’s pandemic response: 78% are confident in Brampton’s economic future 86% are confident in their own organization’s future 32% expect the # of staff within their organization to increase over the next 12 months 68% are satisfied with Brampton City Council’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic Read more

    Focus: What is COVID-19’s impact on small and medium-sized enterprises and how can the government help? There are three key messages in my submission today: 1) The uneven burden of the pandemic impact requires balanced, tailored-solutions. Efforts that reduce costs, preserve cash flow and facilitate revenue generation are what will help small and medium enterprises the most. 2) Innovation is an important part of the economic recovery solution. Investments to accelerate adoption of new processes and technologies will bring small business success. 3) Investments in infrastructure that strengthen supply chain, regional transit and broadband internet are key to Ontario’s future economic competitiveness.     Milton Logistics Hub The Brampton Board of Trade has been actively working on behalf of the business community to encourage approval of this very important hub. Overview-in-brief: What is it?: CN announced its plans to build the $250-million intermodal rail facility, on 400 of the 1,000 acres the company owns in Milton, northwest of Toronto, in March, 2015.
