Brampton Board of Trade CEO Sheldon Leiba comes alive on the BBOT website at www.bramptonbot.com because of an exciting evolution of the web by HD Media Creations.

BBOT Police Service Award
30-year veteran earns award


Congratulating Detective Sergeant Donna Madill centre is from left Inspector Paul Thorne, Brampton Board of Trade President Wayne Waters, Mayor Susan Fennell, Peel Region Chair Emil Kolb and Acting Deputy Chief Dan McDonald.

Detective Sgt Donna Madill is this year’s recipient of The Brampton Board of Trade’s Police Service Award. The award was presented at the BBOT Mayor’s Luncheon in February.

Detective Madill has served in excess of 30 years with Peel Regional Police and has been an active volunteer with agencies within Brampton and Peel Region throughout her career.

Inspector Paul Thorne says Madill has demonstrates a “lifetime of commitment to community involvement.” He said she is en example for all police officers.

Detective Sergeant Madill has been active in Big Sisters/Big Brothers since 1986. She is a past member of the board of directors for 11 years, three as president and two as vice-president. She has chaired numerous fundraising efforts and participated in many activities.

She has been involved with the United Way of Peel since 2004, as a member of their Speaker’s Bureau, visiting organizations and companies to provide motivational support and information about the agency.

Since 2003 she has coordinated volunteers for the Kids ‘n Cops Fishing Derby.

Detective Sergeant Madill’s commitment to community service involves many organizations including:

• Interagency Domestic Violence Steering committee, where she was involved in developing protocol for inter-agency cooperation.
• Block Parents, where she provided assistance to children in the neighborhood where she lived for seven years.
• Victim Services Peel, where she served as a board member and worked on fundraising.
• Peel Memorial Hospital Committee on Child Abuse, where she reviewed child abuse cases in a multi-disciplinary group and assisted in developing a child abuse protocol for the hospital
• Girl Guides of Canada, as a volunteer and a Brownie pack leader.

She has been a long-time resident of Brampton, arriving in 1967. She attended Bramalea Secondary School and later completed a Bachelor of Arts at Wilfred Laurier University.

Detective Sergeant Madill joined the Peel Regional Police force in 1974 and has worked in uniform patrol, youth bureau and criminal investigation at 21 and 22 Divisions.

She became a uniformed patrol sergeant in 1992, a uniform staff sergeant in 1998. From 2002 to 2005 she was assigned as officer in charge of the Recruiting Bureau. In 2005 she returned to Brampton’s 22 Division as a Detective Sergeant.

The Brampton Board of Trade congratulates Detective Sergeant Madill on a long career in community service.


Brampton wins top prize
for Business Directory

Brampton’s Economic Development Office won first place in the business directory category from the Economic Development Council of Ontario (EDCO).

The award was presented Feb. 8 at EDCO’s 50th Annual Marketing Awards Dinner held in Toronto. The Brampton Business Directory is available on CD and electronically through the EDO website.

Accepting the award on behalf of the City of Brampton was: City Councillor Sandra Hames, Brampton Board of Trade President Wayne Waters, Jeffrey Baines, Manager of Economic Development and Dennis Cutajar, Commissioner of Economic Development and Communications.

“We’re thrilled to be recognised by EDCO for excellence in marketing and product development,” said Jeffrey Baines, Manager of Economic Development for the City of Brampton. “This award is particularly gratifying because it is founded on data and research, a fundamental principal not only of economic development but of business and industry as a whole.”

The 2006 edition of the Brampton Business Directory is now available for sale. The Business Directory is a key tool for sales, marketing, networking and business. The new directory lists more than 8,000 businesses including: contact names, employee numbers and internet addresses. The easy-to-use directory allows users to download, search and print their specific criteria or the entire database.

The advanced search capabilities of the directory enable the user to search by: company name, business description, North American industry classification system, postal code, address, contact information, telephone, fax number, contact methods, employment numbers, average annual sales and exporting levels.

To provide more interactivity, if the user viewing a profile selects the business address they will be directed to www.bramptonmaps.ca and can view an aerial view of the business location. As well, the user can link to a company's website or e-mail address where applicable.

The 2006 Brampton Business Directory has been produced in a CD-ROM format only. The print version of the directory has been eliminated this year to allow for the most current version to always be available. With this in mind, the cost of the 2006 Brampton Business Directory has been reduced to $50.
