Mohamad Fakih is the founder and CEO of Paramount Fine Foods, the fastest growing Middle Eastern halal restaurant chain in North America. Having grown up in Beirut during the Lebanese civil war, Mr. Fakih immigrated to Canada 16 years ago and despite having a successful career in the jewellery industry, Mr. Fakih bought a struggling Lebanese restaurant in Mississauga in 2007.
Through hard work, quality control and instilling family values, Mr. Fakih transformed a risk into an opportunity, consequently turning a profit and creating the flagship location for the future franchise business. Today, Paramount Fine Foods has 42 locations across Canada and 52 worldwide, with 14 coming soon. The corporate and franchise locations include catering and takeout, a new spin-off sandwich and shawarma franchise called Fresh East, The Paramount Butcher Shop and food factory, and the Yalla Foodtruck. Paramount is also the first halal restaurant to open at Terminals 1 & 3 at Pearson Airport, as well as at Niagara Fallsview Casino. International locations include the U.S, Pakistan and his native home country, Lebanon.
In fact, 3 locations operate in Brampton, where they employ a large staff of Brampton residents and support a number of organizations. Mr. Fakih’s focus on community is at the heart of Paramount, which is evident in the Syrian refugee program where he set a goal to hire 100 Syrian refugees; so far 80 are working in his restaurants. Moreover, Mr. Fakih covered the funeral costs for the six worshippers who were slain in a mass shooting in January at a Quebec City mosque.
Not only is Mr. Fakih changing attitudes about ‘the shawarma’ and making Lebanese food more accessible to the masses, but the examples he has set has raised the bar in terms of how business leaders connect to their communities. The Board of Trade is pleased to present this award to Mr. Fakih as he clearly demonstrates all qualities of business excellence that we are recognizing at our Business Excellence Awards. His leadership, innovation, and international ambassadorship have led him and his team to outstanding success. Consequently, his communication, sense of teamwork, and the emphasis placed on mentorship have made an indelible impact upon each community in which the Paramount brand operates. It is our honour and pleasure to present Mr. Fakih with the 2017 Business Person of the year Award. Congratulations Mr. Fakih!
Mohamad Fakih will be honoured along with other outstanding businesses and businesspeople on May 11 at the 2017 Business Excellence Awards Gala, taking place at Pearson Convention Centre. The Board of Trade will welcome over 400 business leaders from across Brampton for an evening of celebration and entertainment.
