Alectra Utilities presents William Osler Health System with a $523,696 incentive cheque
The new Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness is cutting edge and innovative in many ways, one being that it was designed to be very energy-efficient.
The facility was designed with improved lighting power density, lighting controls, and high-efficiency HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) equipment, including air handlers with ERV (energy recovery ventilation) technology. All of these factors allow the building to perform well above the standard in electricity and gas comparable to other facilities of its kind.
Through the Save on Energy (High-Performance New Construction) program, the facility received an incentive of $523,696 for the project plus an additional $85,616.00 for the design requirements needed to achieve these goals. They also worked closely with the Utilities’ Conservation team at Alectra in the design and execution phases of the project.

For Osler, the efforts have resulted in energy savings of 3,233,587 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year and electrical demand savings of 856 kilowatts — that is enough power to removing 367 homes from the grid compared to a facility similar to its kind.
